"Unexpected
Struggle"
My Accomplishment
The first will always be remembered!
My Significant Experiences
Having an
experience of teaching in a public school particularly in Baguio City National
High School is a blessing which nothing could deny. Staying in such big school
provided me with relevant experiences even in the first day of
teaching. I have met different kinds of students who have
different behaviors and character traits. I have encountered different teachers
who have years of experience in teaching.
For that, let me share some of my
experiences. My Cooperating Teacher allowed me to observe in all of her
classes. When we entered the 1st class, the students were very
noisy and they keep on standing. So my Cooperating teacher did was not competed
with the students who are noisy and busy talking. Suddenly, they noticed that
their teacher was waiting for them just to keep quiet. I find it very effective
and I could also use that strategy in my teaching.
My Insight
It is
really difficult to handle diverse students. But as a teacher, it is our duty
to discipline them in a good way. The teacher knows the best for his/her
students. Getting mad and always shouting for those students who are hard
headed is normal but we must not forget our limitations.
Problem
This week was our deployment particularly in Baguio City National
High School. I thought this day would be more normal for me but I still felt
fear. I was still scared. I did not know if i will attain my goals for this
time.
On the other hand, in terms of dealing with diverse students, I
believe I am still a starter. There had been instances when I like to burst out
due to the behaviors of my students. I want to pinch, punch or kick them but I
could not because it’s a BIG NO! So far, I find difficulty in managing the
noise of the 4 sections that I handled. It was very irritating and they keep on
walking during class hours.
Solution
My
Cooperating told me, “be firm in front of the students and you must be strict
in terms of their noise”. As I heard this from my Cooperating Teacher, I
questioned myself “What would be an effective strategy that I employ in order
to manage the noise of my students”? I test myself when my Cooperating Teacher
tasked me to handle the 3rd class. As I entered the classroom,
I have to look strict and I often smiled at them. I observed that they were all
in complete silence when I told them my set rules inside the classroom. I
realized that an effective discipline for the students always depend on the teacher
and the students themselves.
Goals for Next Week
For next week, I will be preparing my first lesson plan
for my first rated demo. On the other hand, I want to find for appropriate
strategies that would suit my learners and that would engage each of them in a
meaningful learning. I want to design activities good for my students. Also, I
want to learn more techniques regarding class management especially in managing
the noise of the students.
