"Unexpected Struggle"

My Accomplishment

The first will always be remembered!
Since it was the first week of deployment in Baguio City National High School, I felt excited and at the same time fear in dealing with diverse students. I also felt nervous because it was my first time to meet my Cooperating Teacher. My Cooperating teacher oriented me about the Do’s and Don’ts in in dealing with students.  Moreover, my accomplishments for this week are: I supervised the 4 sections that I handled for the Summative Test; I observed my students behavior; I checked the test papers, and journal notebooks of my students.

My Significant Experiences

Having an experience of teaching in a public school particularly in Baguio City National High School is a blessing which nothing could deny. Staying in such big school provided me with relevant experiences even in the first day of teaching. I  have met different kinds of students who have different behaviors and character traits. I have encountered different teachers who have years of experience in teaching.
For that, let me share some of my experiences. My Cooperating Teacher allowed me to observe in all of her classes. When we entered the 1st class, the students were very noisy and they keep on standing. So my Cooperating teacher did was not competed with the students who are noisy and busy talking. Suddenly, they noticed that their teacher was waiting for them just to keep quiet. I find it very effective and I could also use that strategy in my teaching.

My Insight

It is really difficult to handle diverse students. But as a teacher, it is our duty to discipline them in a good way. The teacher knows the best for his/her students. Getting mad and always shouting for those students who are hard headed is normal but we must not forget our limitations.

Problem

This week was our deployment particularly in Baguio City National High School. I thought this day would be more normal for me but I still felt fear. I was still scared. I did not know if i will attain my goals for this time.

On the other hand, in terms of dealing with diverse students, I believe I am still a starter. There had been instances when I like to burst out due to the behaviors of my students. I want to pinch, punch or kick them but I could not because it’s a BIG NO! So far, I find difficulty in managing the noise of the 4 sections that I handled. It was very irritating and they keep on walking during class hours.

Solution

My Cooperating told me, “be firm in front of the students and you must be strict in terms of their noise”. As I heard this from my Cooperating Teacher, I questioned myself “What would be an effective strategy that I employ in order to manage the noise of my students”? I test myself when my Cooperating Teacher tasked me to handle the 3rd class. As I entered the classroom, I have to look strict and I often smiled at them. I observed that they were all in complete silence when I told them my set rules inside the classroom. I realized that an effective discipline for the students always depend on the teacher and the students themselves.

Goals for Next Week

For next week, I will be preparing my first lesson plan for my first rated demo. On the other hand, I want to find for appropriate strategies that would suit my learners and that would engage each of them in a meaningful learning. I want to design activities good for my students. Also, I want to learn more techniques regarding class management especially in managing the noise of the students.

Manage Your Time

My Accomplishments

My accomplishment for this week was to finish my requirements in preparation with our practice teaching. Though it was very challenging because a lot of requirements were given, I managed my time to accomplish it before the said submission. I finished my minute notebook from day 1 to 3 on Wednesday (August 13, 2014) but we were tasked to include day 4 to 5 that we will be submitting on Monday (August 18, 2014). Moreover, I accomplished my Review Research Journal (RRJ) number one on Friday (August 15, 2014) as well as Instructional Materials (IM’s) such as: pocket chart, illustration white board, and 4 1/8 illustration boards for group activity.

My Significant Experiences

My significant experience during this week was very memorable because I finished my requirements with extra effort. I realized that in making requirements, I must not take it for granted because this will serve as my trophy especially if the outcome is worth it. For example in practice teaching, I must give my all effort and ability to fulfill my duty as a student teacher so that if I will become a Professional Teacher, I can proudly say that because of experiences, I become a good teacher.

My Insights

Practice teaching is the starting point of one’s future career. At first, I was very nervous because of some negative thoughts that always lingering in my mind like requirements, lesson plans, and the like. However, when I thought of my future, I realized that I must pursue my dream and graduate no matter what because practice teaching is my training before becoming a Professional Teacher.

Problems
The problems that I encountered during this week are to think of a concept that could design in my Instructional Materials (IM’s); and to find a Review Research Journal that is related to my course and specialization.

Solutions
I asked help to my cousin about the design of of my Instructional Materials (IM’s) since she is good in designing art works. I am very thankful because she suggested some concepts that I followed and used in designing my Instructional Materials. Moreover, I researched 5 review research journals using the EBSCO host which was very helpful because I found appropriated topic for my Review Research Journal number one that I already passed.

Goals for Next Week

Each of us will be having a meeting about our deployment in Public Schools. Our Supervising Instructor’s (SI’s) will be giving the school assignments for our deployment.
